It appears Savages have been causing a bit of a stir for a while but they seemed to have slipped under my radar.
I was first tempted to check them out after hearing the version of Nichijyou singer Jehnny Beth recorded with japanese noise mongers Bo Ningen. I was then tempted to search them out and checked out the performance of flying to Berlin from jools holland. After downloading (legally) a few eps I like what I was hearing.
First up tonight was Johnny Hostile, with a name like that you have some expectations to live up to! 1 man a bass guitar a drum machine and shit loads of echo and pretty absorbing to say the least.
Time for savages what can you say hypnotic, absorbing, brutal, intense even when you listen to the debut album tracks like I am here just get inside you heard creating soundscapes that drag you in and and mess you up and live they are no different.
The Bodega was packed and signs on the door said the band would like you to not take photos during the gig, so I have no dodgy iphone photos however who ever took this ignored that sign and recorded it!
This is one band I will be certainly be seeing again, However I don't think it will be in a packed out 250 capacity venue like The Bodega.
